Age verification laws, state by state

What’s happening

Starting with Louisiana in 2023, states began passing laws requiring sites with substantial adult content to verify every visitor’s age with government ID or equivalent. In June 2025 the Supreme Court upheld Texas’s law in FSC v. Paxton — and that green light accelerated everything. More than twenty states now have age-verification laws on the books, with more introduced every session.

What it means for your traffic

Platforms facing these laws choose between two bad options: implement ID verification (most visitors bounce rather than upload ID to a porn site) or block the state entirely — as Pornhub has done across much of the South.

For you, that means fans in affected states may vanish from one platform while staying reachable on another, and some percentage will reappear via VPN. If your subscriber base skews toward affected states, a policy change can hit your income overnight without you doing anything wrong.

Are YOU responsible for compliance?

These laws target the sites and platforms, not individual creators posting on them. Uploading to OnlyFans or a cam site doesn’t make you the covered entity — the platform carries the compliance burden.

The exception: your own paysite. If you self-host adult content, you may be a covered entity in states where your visitors live. That’s real legal exposure — use an age-verification vendor and get actual legal advice before launching one.
